'Summer Nights and Sparkling Lights' 2021 Wasco County Fair Guide

Wasco County Fair is right around the corner with fairgrounds prep beginning on Friday. Staff and volunteers will weed and clean around barns and buildings, prepare barns, put up shade cloth, hang paintings, and put up hand sanitizers. On the 18th livestock will begin moving to the fairgrounds, and final weigh-ins will take place.

Wasco County Fair

When: August 19th-22nd. Gates open at 7:00 AM each day. 
Where: Wasco County Fairgrounds, Tygh Valley, OR
Cost: ages 6-12 $6 daily $12 season pass, ages 13 and over $8 daily $20 season pass, under 6 attends free

This year’s fair theme is “Summer Nights and Sparkling Lights” and will feature a rodeo, demolition derby, 4-H livestock and small animal showings and auctions, Kid’s Day, Farmer’s Fun Day, Cook’s Racing Pigs aka “the fastest bacon in the west”, old fashioned horse-drawn carriage rides, local artisans, agriculturalists, the ClockTower Ales beer garden, and live music from Smock Dogs and The Rock Doctors.

Cook’s Pigs

When: August 19th, 20th, 21st at 4:00 PM

Watch these swift-footed pigs from Galt, California race around the track and cheer on your favorites to win!

FREE Family Day / Kid’s Day

When: Thursday the 19th, 2:00 PM

Attend Wasco Count Fair to fair for free on Family Day! There will be lots of fun activities and prizes for kids of all ages.

Farmer’s Fun Day

When: Saturday August 21st, 2021 11:00 AM

Fun for the whole family. Watch kids and adult compete in barrel races goat tying and more.

Rodeo

When: Friday August 20th and Saturday August 21st 7:30 PM-10:00 PM

Come check out the Wasco County Rodeo and let’r buck!

Clocktower Ales Beer Garden & Stage

When: Aug 20th-22nd

Clocktower Ales beer garden will be open Friday and Saturday nights during the rodeo and then again on Sunday during the Demolition Derby which runs from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Live music will follow the rodeo each night with stage performances starting at around (10:00 p.m.)
The performance lineup includes Smock Dogs on August 20th and The Rock Doctors on August 21st.

Demolition Derby 

When: Sunday the 22nd, 1 PM - 4 PM

Where: Wasco County Fairgrounds

The derby has opened up new competition categories to include trucks, large cars, imports, and traditional derby cars. 

Brandon Ashley, who took over running the demolition derby in 2018 said that the expanded categories are slowly gaining traction and that anyone interested in competing in this year’s demolition derby was welcome to turn in their sign up forms ahead of time or bring the completed sign up forms to the 8:30 check-in the day of the event. 

Want to enter but don’t have a car to demo? 

Wasco County Fair will raffle off a pre-stripped 1993 Honda Accord that you can transform into the demolition derby car of your dreams. Raffle tickets will be available at the Wasco County Fair Office.

Free Breakfast

When: August 22nd 6:30 - 9:00 a.m.

There will be free breakfast from Safeway available at the Outdoor Kitchen between the Family Stage and the Dew Drop Inn on Sunday morning. Just follow the smell of bacon!

OSU Extension Wasco County 4-H Schedule

When: all day August 15th-22nd

Market/Conformation/Fashion Show Contests

Swine, goat, sheep, cattle, and poultry contests will take place all day long and conclude with a senior recognition event and fashion show at 6:00 PM on Thursday the 19th. 

Showmanship Contests

: August 20th 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Watch as 4-H participants show off the showmanship skills of their swine, goats, sheep, cattle, rabbits, and other small animals all day on Friday the 20th. 

Livestock and Small Animal Judging
When
: August 21st 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Livestock and small animals will be judged all day!

Awards and 4-H Livestock Auction
When:
August 22nd 9:00 AM
Awards are given to competitors and the 4-H livestock auction takes place starting at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 22nd. 

Want to help support the Wasco County Youth Livestock Auction but can’t afford to buy the animal yourself?Join The Dalles Chamber Auction Pool! The Dalles Area Chamber of Commerce will be taking donations from local businesses and individuals to support the Wasco County Youth Livestock Auction. You can donate as little as $20 to the auction pool. We will take all the funds raised and spend them on animals at the Wasco County Youth Livestock Auction.
