Guard Ethan Thompson, 6’ 5”, 195 pounds, left, for the Oregon State University Beavers has been red hot during March Madness putting up 20 points against Loyola on Saturday. Tanner Elliott, right, of The Dalles, said the trend will continue today when the Beavs take on the Houston Cougars who are 27-3 in the win-loss column. The Beavs, 20-12, are once again, major underdogs. That has yet to stop them. The game starts at 4:15 on CBS.

The Oregon State Beavers are itching to fall some tall trees this afternoon, March 29, as its men’s basketball team intends to continue its rampage through the NCAA tournament and chew down the Houston Cougars in the Elite 8.

It is the first time the Beavers have been there since 1982.

The game is at 4:15  p.m. on CBS.

The Beavs are on a 6-game winning streak and are punishing opponents on defense.

Long-time Beaver fan and alumnus, Tanner Elliott, had his Beaver mask on this morning and quickly pointed out the OSU decal on his pickup.

He bleeds orange.

“They’ll win by 12,” he said as he was starting his workday at 7:30 a.m.

The Beavers, so far, have shocked the NCAA basketball world, having drug themselves out of a mediocre season with a 20-12 record,  and then winning the Pac-12 Championship to earn a berth in the NCAA tournament.

They ousted Colorado, Oregon and then UCLA in that Pac-12 Championship run and have been on a tear ever since, man-handling 5th-ranked Tennessee, beating 4th-ranked Oklahoma State and then handing 8th-ranked Loyola Chicago Ramblers a loss on Saturday.

And now it’s a whole new world, where the past is meaningless. And they are two games from the final.

Sports Illustrated reported, “Oregon State is only the second No. 12 seed in tourney history to make a regional final, and is 40 minutes from being the lowest-seeded team to ever reach a Final Four.”
