Company's Coming

Company's Coming

Crews were drilling at the corner of Crates Way and River Road on Thursday, Nov. 17, as 12 new power poles will be erected in the Port of The Dalles in weeks to come.

Superintendent Colby Henke with Condon Johnson & Associates out of Oakland, Calif., said they were doing the preliminary work to set 12 footings for the power poles that lead to Google property at 3,500 River Road.

The site will eventually house Google’s fourth data center in The Dalles.

Henke said 8 of the foundations would have micropiles or deep foundation elements constructed using high-strength, small-diameter steel casing and/or threaded bars.

The other four footings for the power poles will have a drilled shaft foundation. This allows for cast-in-place deep foundation elements constructed in a drilled hole that is stabilized to allow controlled placement of reinforcing and concrete.

Henke said his company was subcontracting on the job that is being completed by Power Engineers for the Northern Wasco County Peoples’ Utility District.
