Mt. Adams Buddhist Temple has begun the first phase of construction on a new temple in Trout Lake, WA. The new temple is being built to improve the temples ADA accessibility, make space for a children’s early learning program, and more.

The current temple is located on the second floor of a 110 year-old barn.

According to, "Accessibility is the primary reason we needed a new building," said Venerable Thich Minh Tinh (Thay Kozen), the Abbot of Mt. Adams Buddhist Temple “The current temple, while beautiful, requires going upstairs which makes accessibility an issue for a number of our members and visitors. Buddha's teachings tell us that everyone has the desire and the potential to find peace and happiness. Inclusivity and non-discrimination is a core concept in Buddhist teachings. Therefore, having a temple that is easy for everyone to access is very important. To that end, we will continue to include our more distant friends via Zoom, so anyone in the world, no matter your faith or lack thereof, is welcome to join our meditation services. The Zoom link can always be found on our homepage.”

There will be three phases to the building project.

The first building will be an enclosed and covered patio space with heated floors that will facilitate outdoor meditation year-round. The second phase will involve the construction of a new temple which will include community rooms for hosting events, and eventually help support an onsite early learning children’s education program. The third phase will be the construction of a dining area and kitchen.

“While the existing temple is beautiful and rather unique, being in a 100+-year-old barn, we are looking forward to our new temple being completed as it has been designed specifically for the location,” said Reverand Scott See (Minh Tự). “The temple will feature a glass wall to take in the full beauty of our nearby Mt. Adams. And there will be an outdoor pavilion with heated floors to accommodate meditation services outside. Our goal is for the temple to connect us to the outdoors since we are blessed by living in the midst of the wilderness.”

The Mt. Adams Buddhist Temple is seeking donations to help them complete the project. To help encourage people to donate, an anonymous donor has offered up to $5,000 in fund matching for the new building.
