Express-oh Delivery: Construction on Starbucks in East TD jammin'

The Dalles, Ore., Jan. 10, 2023 — Construction crews are grinding out some long days at a new commercial building in East The Dalles that will eventually house a Starbucks Coffee Shop and other businesses.

Their efforts are paying off as the building is quickly progressing, going from concrete forms to near-framed.

The foundation for the building was set in just mid-November and as the project is hoped to be complete in March.

Construction on the 5,500-square-foot commercial building is taking place across the street from McDonald's near The Dalles Bridge.

Superintendent Denis Shea and Project Manager Gunnar Melstrand stand in front of the forms and footprint of a 5,500-square-foot commercial building in November. It did not take long for it to quickly take the shape of a Starbucks during the past 7 weeks. Up to two other businesses will also be housed at the new building next to McDonald’s in the Lone Pine subdivision next to The Dalles Bridge. Both men work for CD Smith Construction Services which is the general contractor on the project. The company based out of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin has worked on multiple projects for Cascadia Development, which owns the project through The Dalles MUD LLC.

The building is expected to be completed in spring 2024.

In addition, The Dalles Multiple USe Development or MUD is also anticipating another commercial building or possibly more housing across the street.

Justin Younker with MUD said they were going to see how the market responds to the development, and if the demand swings toward housing, they may scrap plans for another commercial building and put in townhouses.

Cascadia Development, which owns and operates multiple senior living facilities in Washington, closed the deal to buy the property for the development from Lone Pine Land & Cattle LLC, which is managed by Chris Schanno on March 15, 2023.
