Multiple police officers were called out to the intersection of Kelly Avenue and 11th Street on Monday, Oct. 10 at 4:46 p.m. after a local man was shot with a handgun, according to The Dalles Police Chief Tom Worthy.

Police were informed that the shooter could still be in the area. They were on high alert when they arrived.

“We knew the shooter left the scene on foot,” Worthy said. “We had weapons out and were looking for the suspect in the immediate vicinity, but we did not locate one.”

One officer could be seen shouldering a rifle.

The adult male with the gunshot to the lower body was treated by officers before he was taken to Mid-Columbia Medical Center, Worthy said. “It was non-life-threatening.”

Officers secured the crime scene and engaged witnesses.

“Right now we do have a person we are investigating,” Worthy said of the suspect shooter.

“This case remains under active investigation.”

Oregon State Police and Wasco County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the incident.

Police were still working the scene at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, in this photo.

Witnesses said the man that was shot had purchased beer just minutes before. He could be seen laying on the sidewalk in front of The Next Door with several officers surrounding him.

A bloody sock remained on site after police had cordoned the area off with crime-scene tape.

The Dalles Police log released today, Oct. 11, contained no information on the alleged shooting. However, a large section of the log was redacted - blacked out - at the time of the shooting.

CCCNews will provide additional information when it becomes available.
