Picture of the Day: Rising Running Star Zeb Stelzer Takes on Winter Training Challenges
The Dalles Ore. January 10, 2024 — It was a rainy afternoon here in The Dalles on Monday, January 8th, 2023 when Zeb Stelzer, 15, who lives just outside of Dufur, was seen at the high school. Stelzer is an up-and-coming runner in the Dalles High School. While track does not start until spring, he is taking this opportunity for winter practice to improve his time and distance.
CCCNews had a moment to talk with Stelzer before he began his practice.
“I just started running last year at Dufur Track doing the 800m, but they don’t have a cross country there, so I joined The Dalles High School’s race team. I’m competitive and I want to be the best on the team.”
When asked how others can get into running he said, “It’s best if you grab a friend and go for a run outside, I don’t like treadmills; they’re boring to run on.”
Stelzer then left to begin his practice in the rain, reminding us of the resilience of youth and the determination needed to climb to the top.
