The Original boilers from 1942 still inhabit the bowels of The Dalles High School. They are Kewanee Type C. The boiler system, which sends hot water to radiators in individual classrooms, has two settings - on and off. And only one currently operates. Keeping the system working requires the fabrication of parts at times. They are 82 years old.

Original Catalog for the Kewanee Type C boiler circa 1939. In 2001, Burnham management decided to cease production and to withdraw the Kewanee® boiler from the marketplace, primarily due to the steadily declining numbers of industrial firetube boilers being built and sold in the US., according to OEM Boiler Parts.
