Election Day: Will TD stay old school?

It’s election day. And the fate of a new high school in The Dalles hangs in the balance. Voters are being asked to approve a 30-year, $140 million bond to construct a new high school on the southeast corner of the Wahtonka High School Campus. If the measure gets a majority, the new high school could open as soon as 2027. It would replace the current high school which is in its 82nd year.

It's Official; bond for new TDHS will be on November ballot

Notice is hereby given that a ballot title for a measure referred by the NORTH WASCO COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT #21 has been filed with the Elections Office of Wasco County, Oregon on August 7, 2023. The measure will be presented to the qualified voters of the district at the Special Election held on November 7, 2023. The election will be conducted by mail pursuant to ORS 254.465.

D21 Chief Financial Officer Kara Flath has been working collaboratively with the Wasco County Tax Assessor’s office over the last several months to ensure estimated tax numbers related to the potential bond coincide with the most recent tax assessments. These numbers will help the district better understand, and subsequently respond, to concerns regarding the bond cost when it comes to individual impacts.
