Rain pouring, sawdust flying; Building continues in Port of The Dalles

Rain pouring, sawdust flying; Building continues in Port of The Dalles

Sawdust flies as Sal Reyes, 35, of The Dalles cuts through an 8” x 6'“ beam at the construction site in the Port of The Dalles this morning, April 13. Reyes a framer for RBR Construction, said he originally hailed from Michoacán, Mexico. Weather prognosticators are calling for more rain through the weekend with temps never jumping out of the 50s.

Framers with RBR Construction were working on mixed-use buildings this morning, April 13, that will provide commercial space on the first floor and residential living on the second floor in the Port of The Dalles.

It is the vision of Lindsay and Jeremy Robertson of RBR Construction.

The couple out of Hood River are embracing the idea of making a home above a business and intend to invest more than $1 million dollars in the local market.

The Robertson’s company Alpenbros LLC purchased a little more than a half-acre in the port at 3761 Klindt Drive in 2020 for $255,000 to construct the buildings. They will be located just west of Klindt’s Cove, next to several similar-styled complexes.

Each building combines both commercial and a lot of residential to provide work/live units. The buildings will feature apartments at more than 1,600 square feet apiece. On the ground floor, four commercial spaces will be available at 234 square feet each.

Rebecca Griffin, 42, of The Dalles finds the best way to get through a mud puddle. Using tracks and a Case front loader, of course.
